He felt as if God had taken away his gift of baseball, leading him down a spiral of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), sleepless nights, and emotional turmoil.

In this dark hour, Blake sought help from a discipleship program. Here, amidst tears and brokenness, he agreed to a prayer of salvation. This marked a turning point. The OCD that had tormented him subsided, and he began to feel a change within. Even his interests shifted – violent video games lost their appeal, and a newfound joy sprang in his spirit.

Yet, this change was not without its struggles. Blake still clung to his old desires for popularity and sporting success. His understanding of God was still rooted in a works-based theology, where perfection was the only acceptable offering. This mindset followed him through high school and college, leading to a crisis of faith, a loss of assurance in his salvation, and a diminishing will to live.

Desperate for a true encounter with God, Blake stumbled upon an article by a Methodist pastor. The pastor’s words, “I plead the promises of God,” struck a chord in him. Coupled with a friend’s advice to immerse himself in the Bible, Blake embarked on a new chapter of his spiritual journey.
